Whole Blood Donation- the most common type of blood donation in
which approximately a pint of whole blood is donated.
ALYX - is a new apheresis donation type at
LifeSource. ALYX is able to safely remove twice the number of red
cells that a traditional whole blood donation will provide.
Apheresis Donation - a special kind of blood donation in which whole blood is
withdrawn, a desired component separated and retained, and the remainder of
the blood returned to the donor. The two most common types of Apheresis donations are
Platelets and Plasma
Autologous
Donation– a blood donation for your own use.
Directed
Donation – a donation that
has been collected for a specific person (e.g. a family member or friend in need);
the person in need requests you as their blood donor.
