Platelet donors! There is no substitute for human blood. When you make a blood donation, you join a very select group. Currently only 3 out of every 100 people in America donate blood. Help us bridge the gap.
LifeSource is offering DOUBLE Donor Rewards Points on Sundays, as a symbol of gratitude for donating platelets with us!
2x Bonus Points
Platelets: 250 + 250= 500 total points
Learn About Platelets
Patients with cancer or leukemia, transplant patients and people with blood disorders, such as aplastic anemia, benefit from platelet transfusions. During chemotherapy and radiation treatment, both cancer cells and platelets are destroyed. Many of these patients need platelet transfusions to prevent uncontrolled bleeding.
The donation does not significantly decrease the number of platelets in the donor’s body. Donated platelets are replaced in approximately two days and platelet donors can donate every seven days and up to 24 times a year.
The qualifications for platelet donors are similar to those for whole blood donations. The minimum age is 18 (16 or 17 with signed parental consent form*), and platelet donors must weigh at least 110 lbs.
Because there is a special process involved with donating platelets, LifeSource collects platelets at the following community donor centers:
|Crystal Lake||Oak Lawn|
|Gurnee||State of Illinois|
|Jefferson Park||Villa Park|
